CAAHF successfully hosted the 2005 Plano Asian Heritage Festival on May 8 in Haggard Park near Downtown Plano. The Festival started at 1:30 in the afternoon. Despite the threat of thunderstorms, over 2000 people attended the event.
Over twenty display booths were sponsored by various ethnic Asian groups, non-profit organizations, government and civic institutions, as well as local businesses. From origami to Go, from Chinese calligraphy to arts and crafts, from face/hand painting to balloon animal clowns, the festival provided an afternoon of fun for the whole family. Crafts and cultural information were displayed from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Live performances at the Haggard Park gazebo included Lion Dances, folk dances from Okinawa and India, and songs from the Philippines, Japan, China, and other Asian countries. At the festival, Mayor Evans formally proclaimed May 2-8, 2005 as the City of Plano’s Asian Heritage Week.
