ASIAFEST '08 Set for May 3, Seeks Sponsors

The Celebrating Asian American Heritage Foundation (CAAHF) will host ASIAFEST ‘08 on Saturday May 3, 2008. The fifth annual Festival will take place at Haggard Park in downtown Plano from 11 am to 5 pm. Activities will include demonstrations of Asian culture including Chinese calligraphy, Asian painting, traditional dances, fashion shows, musical instruments and other cultural arts. Talented artists from the local Asian community will showcase their culture and heritage to the public. This event celebrates the diverse artistic and cultural experiences of Asian-Americans. ASIAFEST ‘08 is about understanding the different spices that make up the wonderful American Melting Pot.
Since the first Plano Asian American Heritage Festival in 2004, the event has been recognized and touted in local newspapers and media as one of the main events to celebrate Asian American Heritage month in Plano. Your support and sponsorship are very important for the success of the week’s events and will be appreciated by the Asian community.

ASIAFEST 2007, the 4th annual Plano Asian Heritage Festival

CAAHF successfully hosted ASIAFEST '07on May 6 in Haggard Park near Downtown Plano. The Festival started at noon with a Lion Dance from the Chinese Cultural Center. The weather was gorgeous and contributed to a record attendance. There were well over 5000 people attending the event. More than 70 display, activity, commercial, and food vendor booths were sponsored by various ethnic Asian groups, non-profit organizations, government and civic institutions, as well as local businesses. From Chinese calligraphy to origami and other arts and crafts, from hand painting to instrument demonstrations, the festival provided an afternoon of fun for the whole family.  Live performances at the Haggard Park gazebo stage included Lion Dances, folk dances from Okinawa, classical Indian dances from the Ellora Center for Performing Arts and other , classical Chinese dances from the Jiaping Shi Dance School and songs from Japan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, and other Asian countries. A fashion show from the kids at Hedgecoxe Elementary School brought down the house with their colorful costumes and smart and adorable presentations. The Chinese Cultural fashion show presented by the Merit Chinese School is a broadcast of ancient Chinese costumes.  During the festival, Mayor Evans formally proclaimed May 6-12, 2007 as the City of Plano’s Asian Heritage Week.
